The opening meeting of the “Improving Occupational Health and Safety in Mining Project (MISGEP)” carried out by the Ministry of Family, Labour and Social Services was held on 20 June 2020 in a “video conference” format.
Minister of Family, Labour and Social Services Ms. Zehra Zümrüt SELÇUK made the opening speech of the video conference of the project, which aims to create decent work for the Turkish workforce by improving health, security and work peace. In her speech, Minister Zehra Zümrüt Selçuk stated that they are working to provide healthy and safe working conditions for the employees. Stating that the increase in occupational diversity causes the rate of safety risks to increase, Ms. Zehra Zümrüt Selçuk added by saying, “Our objective is to reduce occupational accidents to a minimum in our country, which is also a global problem. We aim to achieve a healthy and safe work life in which not even a single employee has to lose their lives due to their profession.” Ms. Zehra Zümrüt Selçuk emphasized that they aim to make their work more effective and permanent thanks to the MISGEP project, and gave information regarding the financial support and guidance program of MISGEP.
During the event, while the Technical Assistance and Financial Support and Guidance components of the project are introduced, the subject of occupational health and safety will be examined from different perspectives such as “advantages of investing in OHS”. Led by the President of Institute of Research and Development of Occupational Health and Safety Ms. Sakine OVACILLI, the panel on “Innovative and Rational Solutions in the Field of OHS in Mining” was attended by International Senior OHS Expert Mr. Corrie PITZER, MISGEP Team Leader Mr. Gökhan GÜLER, Chairman of the Health & Safety Committee of the European Association of Mining Industries, Metal Ores & Industrial Minerals Mr. Göksel ALPASLAN, Mr. Iain Wallace ANDERSON from the Acacia Mining Operations, MISGEP Key Training Expert Mr. Naci SALİ and Mining Engineer and Consultant Dr. Rıza Güner GÜRTUNCA as panellists.
