Within the scope of the EUR 17.6 Million grant component of the Improving Occupational Health and Safety Especially in Mining Sector Project (MISGEP), in which the Directorate General of Occupational Health and Safety (DGOHS) is the Operation Beneficiary and the Directorate of European Union and Financial Assistance (DEUFA) is the Contracting Authority; the opening meeting of the “Safe Job, Safe Future Project” carried out by İskenderun Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School was held on 6 July 2021. At the meeting held at Anemon Hotel in compliance with the pandemic measures, the opening speeches were made by the President of Occupational Health and Safety Research and Development Institute (ISGUM) Ms. Sakine OVACILLI, School Principal Mr. Yusuf YILDIRIM, Project Coordinator Mr. Kerem DEVECİ, İskenderun Özçelik-İş Union Branch President Mr. Mehmet GÜNGÖR, İskenderun Chamber of Commerce and Industry Member of Board Mr. Müfit TENNİOĞLU, Head of Department of MoNE Directorate General of Vocational and Technical Education Mr. İsmail GÜLER and Provincial Director of National Education Mr. Kemal KARAHAN.
The Institute President Ms. Sakine OVACILLI emphasized that, rather than adoption by only one person, unit or institution, OHS can reach the desired level with the effort, knowledge and devotion of all parties, with an understanding above politics. She stated that nearly 400 applications were received for grant support and only 36 projects among these applications were entitled to benefit from grant support. She stated that the “Safe Job, Safe Future” Project carried out byİskenderun Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School is provided with the support and she congratulated İskenderun Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School in this regard. Ms. OVACILLI pointed out the importance of occupational health and safety in metal and machinery sector, which is crucial for the economy, employment and development of the country, and noted the importance of raising the awareness of the sector employees working in the metal and machinery enterprises operating in Iskenderun Organized Industrial Zone on OHS and increasing the institutional capacity of Iskenderun Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School on occupational health and safety within the scope of the project.
Public Prosecutor Mr. İsmail GÜNGÖR, Deputy District Governor of İskenderun and District Governor of Belen Mr. Hayrettin BASKIN, Mayor of İskenderun Mr. Fatih TOSYALI, Chairman of İskenderun Organized Industrial Zone Mr. E. Ayhan TOSYALI, District Director of National Education Mr. Kemal KÖSEOĞLU, Branch Managers of Ministry of National Education, representatives of the metal and machinery sector, sector employees and local press members were among the participants.
In his speech, project coordinator Mr. Kerem DEVECİ pointed out the importance of the review of the examples of good practices in Germany, one of the leading countries in occupational health and safety in Europe, by participating in the “OHS Culture and Dissemination Platform” meetings, which will be established within the scope of the project and noted the importance of the technical study visit especially in the field of regional industry.
Dr. Mehmet Hakan DEMİR and Atty. Haydar GÖKPINAR from the Hatay Bar Association provided information on Occupational Health and Safety in the Field of Metal and Machinery Industry.
