Project Objectives: The main objective of the Mixed Reality Application for Improving Mine Safety Culture in Underground Mining project (MR4MS) is to improve the safety culture in the mining industry and to reduce the rates of injury and loss of life in mining accidents. The MR4MS project involves simulating an underground coal mine by using virtual reality and mixed reality technologies. This project was developed for the mining sector and will be carried out in Turkey. The expected contribution of the project is to improve the safety culture especially for underground mining employees, to improve OHS trainings and conditions, and to enable the fulfillment of legal obligations in the Turkish mining sector.

Activities
1- Preparation and Implementation Activity 1 (A.1 Conceptualising and assessing accidents occurring in underground mining operations in Turkey)
2- Preparation and Implementation Activity 2 (A.2 Developing a mixed reality (MR) environment to organise advanced trainings)
3- Preparation and Implementation Activity 3 (A.3 Training of target groups with theoretical training materials and developed models)
4- Preparation and Implementation Activity 4 (A.4 Assessing the performance of target groups in a mixed reality environment)
5- Preparation and Implementation Activity 5 (A.5 Presenting the final results of the Project to the target groups and the end beneficiaries)
Outputs
1- Focus group meeting with at least 20 participants from the representatives of relevant institutions/universities/companies in order to determine the priority occupational health and safety issues of underground mines in Turkey that can be modeled in a virtual/mixed (MR/VR) reality environment
2- Developing and beta testing of a mixed reality (MR) environment where participants can experience different scenarios related to occupational health and safety of underground mines in Turkey.
3- Creating a basic infrastructure on occupational health and safety with theoretical and applied trainings with at least 30 participants.
4- Quantitative and qualitative analysis of training results for at least 30 participants.
5- Organisation of the closing meeting with at least 30 participants.
