We held the Second Steering Committee Meeting for the Improving Occupational Health and Safety Especially in the Mining Sector Project (MISGEP) on 30 November 2020 in an online format within the scope of the COVID-19 pandemic measures.
The beneficiary institution of the project, the contracting authority, the Delegation of European Union to Turkey (EUD) and representatives of stakeholder institutions and organizations attended the meeting.
Director General of Occupational Health and Safety Mr. Cafer UZUNKAYA, who attended the meeting stated that all the stakeholders within the sector will benefit from the added value of the project thanks to the activities that will be taking place every month, that the sustainable outputs of the project in terms of occupational health and safety will be used long-term in the sector, and that as the Directorate General, they will transfer their institutional resources for the project which has completed its first year and has three components in the remaining twenty-four months. The Head of Department of the Directorate of European Union and Financial Assistance (DEUFA), Ms. Süreyya ERKAN stated that the negative effects of the pandemic were reflected on all projects. She stated that they are working especially hard as the Department of the Directorate of European Union and Financial Assistance to reduce the effects of the pandemic, and that the “Improvement of Occupational Health and Safety, Especially in the Mining Sector Project (MISGEP)” is an important project which the field needs. At the meeting, EUD Sector Manager Mr. Mehmet Caner DEMİR expressed his wishes that the pandemic process will not go on for much longer so that the activities of the project, which will contribute greatly to the field, and the field work can be started in a short amount of time.
After the Team Leader Mr. Gökhan GÜLER gave information regarding what was done in the second 6-monthly period of the project within the scope of the technical assistance component of MISGEP, the Ministry of Family, Labour and Social Services Experts Ms. Ayşegül ALTINOK and Ms. Funda ÖZÇELİK also informed the participants about the Grant and the Financial Support and Guidance Programme, which are the other components of MİSGEP.
After the questions of the representatives from the stakeholder institutions were answered, the meeting ended with the closing speech of the Deputy Director General of Occupational Health and Safety Mr. Furkan YILDIZ.
