Project Objectives: The overall objective of the project is to improve the occupational health and safety conditions in the construction sector, in particular for the safe use of scaffolding and to provide knowledge and raise the awareness of all relevant stakeholders.

Activities / Outputs  :

  • Field research/Training needs analysis studies will be carried out on 350 employees and 25 employers, and the parts of the sector that need training and guidance will be determined.
  • Face-to-face training programmes: Trainings will be organized for 350 employees (25 employees x 14 groups) / 84 hours, 25 employers / 12 hours.
  • E-learning training programmes: Trainings will be carried out online via the e-learning training portal, web version, smart device applications (iOS and Android) for employees, employers and employee family groups.
  • Support studies for vocational high schools: 40 teachers (20 people x 2 groups) / 30 hours, 90 students (45 people x 2 groups) / 30 hours of trainings will be organized in order to introduce the sector to the students in vocational high schools that train intermediate staff for the sector, to help them realize the importance of this subject by seeing the practices.
  • Curriculum development studies: Meetings and studies will be organized by experts for the preparation/revision of the “Safe Scaffolding and Formwork Systems Training Curriculum” for vocational high schools affiliated to the Ministry of National Education.
  • Studies will be carried out in the departments of civil engineering of universities
  • (Middle East Technical University, Boğaziçi University, Istanbul Technical University, Yildiz Technical University): Awareness will be raised among civil engineering students of universities by establishing “Safe Scaffolding Photo and Video Contest and Exhibition”, Demo “Safe Scaffolding” and promotional activities to reach 750 students.
  • Professional development seminars, introductory meetings and sectoral meetings will be held with IMO (Chamber of Civil Engineers) in 4 cities other than Ankara-Istanbul.
  • Study visits abroad: Examples of good practice in Germany, the UK and Belgium will be examined.
  • Scientific workshop: A full-day scientific workshop with 250 people, consisting of representatives of academia, private sector and public institutions will be organized to discuss the project outputs, improvement areas and the requirements for the formation of a safe workplace culture, in particular the use of safe scaffolding, by considering them in terms of economic, psychological, sociological, legal and public health.
  • Project documentary (20 minutes): A 20-minute project documentary will be prepared, covering all the processes of the project, with an approach to the risks in the sector, especially from the perspective of the employees.
  • Press and media studies: Social media accounts, interviews and conversations with the written/visual press will be held.
  • Establishing the project website: A micro-website will be created under the Scaffolding and Formwork Manufacturer Association (IKSD) website.
  • Impact report: An impact report which evaluates the impact of the project process on target groups and the public will be prepared.
