Implementation Areas: Ankara (Nallıhan), Konya (Ilgın), Kütahya (Hisarcık, Tunçbilek), Sivas (Divriği), Amasya (Merzifon), Manisa (Soma), Kahramanmaraş (Afşin, Elbistan*), Eskişehir, (Seyitgazi), Balıkesir, Muğla (Yatağan), Çanakkale, Mardin, Kayseri, Antalya, Isparta. However, project implementation centers are limited to 5 branches, taking into account the number of members and their locations. These were determined as Manisa-Soma, Kütahya-Tunçbilek, Kahramanmaraş-Elbistan, Ankara-Nallıhan and Eskişehir-Kırka.
Project Objectives: The overall objective of the project is to raise awareness about the importance of occupational health and safety in the mining sector by promoting responsibility in all aspects, to develop a safe environment for all parties, including families, local people, employees and employers, and to ensure that the culture of safety is embedded in all areas of life.
The specific objective of the project is to support the development of unionisation, trade union rights and OHS relations at all levels, to contribute to the unionisation of employees and employers, to strengthen the OHS inspection and guidance capacity, and to create a safety culture in the target regions.
Activities / Outputs: 4 basic activities have been designed to raise the awareness level of the target groups in line with the aforementioned objectives. These activities are;
- Current situation analysis and focus group meetings will be implemented in order to develop the relations between unionisation of OHS, social dialogue and union rights at all levels, and to offer analysis and solution proposals in order to contribute to the unionisation of employees and employers.
- Trainings will be implemented with the objective of minimising the risks in the field by organising supervision and guidance in the mining sector and trainings for employees and representatives in 5 implementation centres.
- Competitions: A story-poetry competition for parents and spouses, a painting competition for children, and a photography competition for employees will be organised to create a culture of safety in the target regions.
- OHS days: With the objective of transforming the safety culture into a lifestyle, it is aimed that the local people and the employees adopt OHS with social activities, which will last for 2 days in the implementation centres, and playgrounds such as the safety track is planned to attract the interest of the children to the area.
Expected results of the project to be implemented within the scope of main activities:
1- Situation analysis on the relationship between unionisation and OHS
2- Developing awareness about the importance of OHS among employees, employers and the families of employees
3- Increasing awareness of OHS
4- Lessons learned from good practices and promotions
5- Trained employee representatives as shadow OHS experts
